Sira Nights

Sıra night as it is known in Urfa is a meeting and current affairs gathering where conversations are held on sound, instrument and words in the folk culture identified with Şanlıurfa province in Türkiye. Sıra gecesi can be considered as a whole of music, conversation and literature from beginning to end. Sıra gecesi are nights when wise men speak, apprentices kneel and poems come to the instrument. The use of the word Sıra comes from the fact that the nights are held in order in everyone's home.

It is a tradition that comes from the people and has been kept alive until today. Sıra gecesi is generally held among men. Children are taken to these places at a young age and learn how to sit and stand with the congregation, how to listen and how to behave. Musicians and singers from the people sing local folk songs and songs, especially uzun hava, and poems on these nights. Since it is a place that educates and teaches, for example, an artist who reads a single syllable of a gazel incorrectly on these nights would not attend these nights again for a long time because he would be embarrassed.
During Sıra nights, it is also a tradition and custom that the treats are served abundantly. In addition, no other guests were invited to these groups without informing the other people in the queue. In addition to saz and söz, games such as "Cup hiding" or "Tolaka" were played during the nights. For these reasons, Sıra nights have also become a place of solidarity between these people of the same culture.
Sıra nights also have an important place in the history of Şanlıurfa.
