Han El-Ba'rur

Located in Göktaş Village, 27 km southeast of Harran, Han El-Ba'rur dates back to the Ayyubid period. Located on the Harran-Baghdad road route in the mountainous region known as the Tektek Mountains, the caravanserai consists of a mosque, guard room, stables, bathhouse and summer rooms. The structure bears all the characteristics of Anatolian Seljuk caravanserais. The caravanserai, which surrounds a nearly square courtyard measuring 43.30x44.80 meters, has two inscriptions, one to the north and the other to the west. According to the inscription above the entrance gate; the caravanserai was built by İsa oğlu el-Hac Hüsameddin Ali Bey in 1128-1129. The word "Ba'rur", which is the name of the inn, means "Keçccedil;i dung" in Arabic. It means.

According to legend, the person who had the inn built filled it with dried grapes and offered it to his guests who were passing by or staying in the caravanserai. Looking back to the future, he said, "Those who come after me will fill this place with goat manure." The structure fell into disrepair after the Mongol invasion and was used as a barn by the locals for many years. The fact that it was filled with goat manure is truly thought-provoking and meaningful.
