Germus Church

Germuş Church is located in Germuş village, which is established at the foothills of Germuş Mountains, 10 km northeast of the center.   The current name of the village is Dağeteği. It is estimated to have been built in the 19th century. The church area consists of a stream, a church (St. Yakup) church and the meeting square of the church.   The church was built of stone and has two floors. This village was donated by Atatürk to a sheikh of Hamidiye Pasha of Iraqi origin named Uceymi Sümer Pasha. This pasha, who provided significant assistance to the Ottoman Empire on the Syrian front during the First World War, came to Turkey after the war and settled here. His real name is "Ceymi Sadun Pasha." With the surname law that came into effect in 1934, he took the surname "sümer".
